To strengthen our communities, it is important that our neighbourhoods are thoughtfully planned in a coordinated, place-based way. Creating walkable, liveable neighbourhoods connects people to these places and in turn promotes healthy, active lifestyles. To help achieve this, the Cork City Development Plan applies the 15-Minute City concept by identifying and planning a network of walkable neighbourhoods. The goal is to enable people to get to where they need to go to as part of their everyday lives within a 15-minute walk, cycle or bus trip. These everyday needs include places like public parks, libraries, schools, childcare, shops and cafés.
