Cork City Pedestrian Counts

Cork City Council operates 11 pedestrian counters across key locations in the city centre. These sensors record hourly pedestrian movements in two directions (InCount and OutCount), helping to monitor footfall patterns and support evidence‑based planning.

The accompanying map identifies the 11 pedestrian counting sites:

  • Installed in 2018: Patrick Bridge East & West, Academy Street North & South, Daunt Square North & South
  • Installed in 2022: 1 Pembroke Street, 1 Union Quay, 19 Caroline Street, 26 Princes Street, Beasly Street

The blue arrows on the map indicate the InCount direction, helping to interpret the flow of movement.

GDPR & Privacy

These pedestrian counters do not collect or process any personal data. Only numerical counts of passing pedestrians are recorded; no images, identifiers, or personal characteristics are captured.

Pedestrian counts may be influenced by external factors such as outdoor weather, dining layouts, on‑street events, construction works, temporary diversions, and COVID‑19 public‑health restrictions, all of which can affect footfall levels. Users should consider these factors when interpreting trends or making comparisons over time.
